Basin Boundary Modification in the Colusa and West Butte Subbasins

Update: 2.11.2019: The California Department of Water Resources (DWR) released the final Basin Boundary Modifications. Both the Colusa Subbasin and Butte Subbasin proposals were approved. For more information on Statewide Basin Boundary Modifications, see the DWR Website.

Update: 11.29.2018: The California Department of Water Resources (DWR) released the Draft Basin Boundary Modifications. Both the Colusa Subbasin and Butte Subbasin Proposals are initially approved. A 30-day public comment period is open through January 4, 2019. For more information, visit the DWR BBM website: https://water.ca.gov/Programs/Groundwater-Management/Basin-Boundary-Modifications

Update: 9.28.2018: The Colusa Groundwater Authority’s proposal for a Basin Boundary Modification has been submitted and has been deemed complete by the California Department of Water Resources’ (DWR). The proposal is posted on DWR’s online Basin Boundary Modification Request System.

The Deadline for public comment is 11:59 p.m. October 28, 2018. Comments can be submitted on the DWR online Portal: https://sgma.water.ca.gov/basinmod/modrequest/comments/243

The Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA) established a process for local Groundwater Sustainability Agencies (GSAs) to request that the California Department of Water Resources (DWR) revise the boundaries of a groundwater basin or subbasin in order to promote sustainable groundwater management.

The Colusa Groundwater Authority (CGA) is recognized by DWR as the GSA for the Colusa County portion of the Colusa Subbasin, and portions of the West Butte Subbasin. The CGA has submitted a request to DWR for a Basin Boundary Modification (BBM) to bring the Colusa County portion of the West Butte Subbasin that lies on the west side of legal service area of Reclamation District 1004 into the Colusa Subbasin (See map below).
